]]> ¿Siempre quisiste hacer algo útil en un país extranjero y soleado?. Entonces ¿Por qué no ir a México? En San Cristóbal de Las Casas existe una organización de servicio social que trabaja con niños indígenas y jóvenes (de entre 0 a 20 años). Ellos están en situaciones de riesgo y exclusión, de género – perspectiva. A través de diversos programas de apoyo a la promoción, la protección y el ejercicio de sus derechos, el proyecto trata de mejorar la calidad de vida de los niños y jóvenes indígenas. Aparte de esto, la organización educa a la población local acerca de la necesidad de respetar los derechos de los niños y jóvenes. Asimismo, la organización está involucrada en la investigación, la creación de redes y las actividades de cabildeo.

Hay tres posibles grupos de edad para trabajar. Los niños de 0-6 años (primera infancia), 6-13 años (niños que trabajan) y los jóvenes en la edad de 13-20 años. Tus actividades dependerán del grupo con el que vas a trabajar. Por el momento, los voluntarios son especialmente necesarios en el grupo de los niños trabajadores de la zona y los jóvenes.

San Cristóbal – situado en un hermoso valle de las tierras altas – es un destino muy popular. Esta ciudad de tamaño medio, tiene un ambiente muy agradable y es un centro popular entre los viajeros de hermosas, debido a sus calles empedradas y los mercados locales. Hay una infraestructura para los viajeros, tales como cafeterías, bares, restaurantes, albergues y otros.

Para participar haciendo trabajo voluntario en México, en cualquiera de los proyectos mencionados anteriormente debes tener al menos 18 años de edad y el proyecto prefiere personas interesadas en la cultura indígena mexicana y en los derechos humanos en general. También deberás tener experiencia en el trabajo con jóvenes (niños). Se prefiere a las personas con estudios en educación, trabajo social, pedagogía, ciencias humanas o la psicología. Donde quiera que decidas hacer tu voluntariado, elige algo que realmente quieras hacer. Tu entusiasmo e iniciativa serán muy apreciados. La flexibilidad, la paciencia y un buen espíritu de trabajo son características que son obligatorios. La organización requiere de un periodo voluntario mínimo de 3 meses.

Los voluntarios deben tener un nivel básico – intermedio de español, ya que trabajan directamente con los niños y miembros del personal local. En términos generales, una de las experiencias más gratificante de tu experiencia como voluntario será el mejorar tu español. Tomar clases implica tener una entrevista en el primer día para determinar tu nivel de español. Junto con otros estudiantes del mismo nivel, que sigue 15 sesiones de clases en grupo a la semana. Además de estudiar español y hacer la tarea, la escuela ofrece gran cantidad de actividades de diversión después de clases; hay noches de juego y de cine. ]]> Always wanted to do something useful in a foreign, sunny country? Why not go to Mexico! In San Cristóbal de Las Casas there is a social service organization that works with indigenous children and young people (aged 0 to 20). They are in situations of risk and exclusion, from a rights – and gender – perspective. Through various programs that support the promotion, protection and exercise of their rights, the project tries to improve the quality of life of indigenous children and young people. Apart from this, the organization educates the local population about the need to respect the rights of children and youngsters. Also the organization is involved in research, network building and lobbying activities.


There are three possible age groups to work with. Kids from 0-6 years (Early Childhood), from 6-13 years (Working Children) and Young People in the age of 13-20 years. Your activities will depend on the group that you will be working with. At the moment, volunteers are especially needed in the area’s Working Children and Young People.

Why you should definitely do volunteer work in Colombia

San Cristóbal – located in a beautiful highland Valley – is a very popular destination. This medium sized city has a very pleasant atmosphere and is a popular travellers hub with beautiful cobbled streets and local markets.  There is an infrastructure for travelers such as cafes, bars, restaurants, hostels and others.

To participate doing volunteer work in Mexico in any of the projects mentioned above you should be at least 18 years old and the project prefer people interested in Mexican indigenous culture and in human rights in general. You should also have experience in working with (young) children. A background/ study in education, social work, pedagogy, human sciences or psychology is preferred. Wherever you decide to volunteer, pick something that you really want to do. Your enthusiasm and initiative will be much appreciated. Flexibility, patience and a good work spirit are characteristics that are mandatory. The organization requires a minimum volunteer period of 3 months.

Why you should definitely do volunteer work in Colombia

Volunteers need to have a (low) intermediate level of Spanish as they work directly with the children and local staff members. Generally speaking, the better your Spanish, the more rewarding your volunteer experience will be. It is advisable to take Spanish classes before or during your volunteer project. We can help you arrange classes at the local Spanish school in San Cristóbal.

Taking classes involves having an interview on the first day to determine your Spanish level. Together with other students of the same level you follow 15 sessions of group classes a week. Apart from studying Spanish and doing homework, the school offers lot of fun activities after school; there are game- and movie nights. At the end of all your hard work you will receive a Final Certificate.
