SOCIAL PROJECT ABA-SE07 IN ARGENTINA

Volunteer Project in Argentina

ABA-SE07

Description:

This is a Buenos Aires based home for girls who are between the ages of 12 and 21 years old. There are about 20 girls living in this home who have previously been living on the streets or who have strained relationships with their families due to poverty, and/or abuse. There are two directors of the project along with a psychiatrist, two psychologists and a social worker who work there at the project with the girls. They visit the girls every week but they don’t live there. The girls are taken care of by a group of women who are not part of the professional team. They have a normal schedule and they all attend school or work. They are looking for volunteers who have an interest in spending time with the girls, developing relationships with them, educating them through lessons in English, art, sports, self-esteem development etc. Male volunteers can work at this project as well.

Activities:

Spend time developing positive relationships with the girls by organizing sports and creative workshops, helping with homework or teaching them some English. Volunteers working at this project are highly encouraged to propose activities themselves and to work independently. During certain weeks of the year, the girls might be participating in outdoor activities / camps and thus there is less work to do at the project itself. In these situations, volunteers might be placed internally at our volunteer coordination center where you will be assisting in various organizational and promotional activities.

Requirements:

Psychologists or those interested in social work are especially needed. When working at this volunteer project, you need to be able to deal with difficult issues such as abuse, poverty and abandonment.

Minimum:

4 weeks.

Work Schedule:

Monday through to Friday, approximately 4 hours per day in the afternoon.

Spanish:

Intermediate. It is recommended to take a Spanish course before starting your volunteer work.

Capacity:

2 volunteers at a time.
